An application portal that checks 15 rules on every file
Subsidiary of a large French automotive group, November 2023 to January 2026
Situation: every application went through the team, from the file to the audit.
The client runs a network of car recycling centers. A center that wants to join the network sends an application. The client's team reviews it, audits the site, then accepts or refuses the center. In November 2023, I joined the project to build the app for this process.
Mission: one app, from the form to the audit.
I had to build the app, then evolve it with the regulations and the team's requests.
Actions
A first version in 60 hours. The data model, the application form, a second form opened with a code sent by email, the back office, accounts and emails. Delivered for testing on 25 January 2024, on the promised date.
The new regulations. In April and May 2024, I redid the forms. The first one runs over 3 pages and checks the company numbers before letting the center continue.
15 automatic refusal rules. As soon as an application is sent, the app checks the center's permits, certificates and recycling rates. If a rule fails, the center gets an email that explains why. When the team refuses a file by hand, it must give a reason.
Two roles. Assistants sort the applications. Network managers audit sites in the field with their phones, so I made the whole app usable on mobile in September 2024.
An export that holds up under load. When the file got too big, I moved its generation to the server. It now arrives by email.
Renewals. In January 2026, I simplified the first application and added renewals, sent to one center or to several at once.
What I fixed
After the move to the final web address, centers with an application in progress could no longer open their link. I fixed it the same evening, on 30 August 2024.
A number typed with a space as the thousands separator was not saved, with no error message. I fixed the format of 24 fields.
How I worked
Every change went through a test version first. The client's project manager approved each item before it went to production. I announced each release in the project chat. When a choice had a trade-off, I explained the options in writing.
Results
In production since 4 July 2024, and still evolving in 2026.
Every application checked against 15 rules as soon as it is sent.
190 hours of work, from November 2023 to January 2026.
One of the three apps I built for this client, with the used parts site.

The app where car recycling centers apply to join a network. Two forms, 15 automatic checks, and a back office for the team that reviews and audits the centers.
