Overview

Buddhihotta is a haunting, narrative-driven music video for Cryptic Fate’s track from their Noy Mash album, honoring the memory of the intellectual martyrs of Bangladesh in 1971. Through a minimalist, symbolic visual language of stark shapes and atmospheric textures, the video channels both the dread of oppression and the somber reverence of remembrance.

Concept & Creative Vision

The video’s creative direction reimagined the atrocities of December 14, 1971 (Martyred Intellectuals Day) through a visceral, abstract narrative rather than literal reenactments. Under the direction of Farhan Samad, the project captured themes of chaos, loss, and the psychological weight of genocide using fragmented imagery, storm sequences, and relentless motion. Illustrator Arham Habib added emotional depth with hand-drawn character portraits, surreal environments, and symbolic elements, creating a layered visual foundation. As the Motion Designer, I elevated these visuals with fast-paced editing, glitch overlays, flickering transitions, and storm effects, syncing every movement to Cryptic Fate’s intense instrumentation. The result was a visually arresting piece that amplified the music’s energy while honoring a deeply significant moment in history.

Motion Treatment

Fast-Paced Editing: Every frame was cut to match the rhythm of guitar riffs, drum fills, and vocal delivery, creating a high-energy, immersive experience.
Glitch and Flicker Effects: Heavy use of digital glitches, frame skips, and flickering transitions mirrored the chaos of war and uncertainty, amplifying emotional tension.
Thunderstorm Visuals: Storm sequences, lightning strikes, and rain overlays introduced a dramatic, oppressive atmosphere, symbolizing unrest and violence.
Abstract and Symbolic Compositing: Abstract geometric forms, fragmented portraits, and layered textures blended with historical cues to create a narrative that was both surreal and emotionally resonant.

Impact

The video was praised for its cinematic intensity and fresh visual storytelling in the Bangladeshi heavy metal scene.
It deepened Cryptic Fate’s “Noy Mash” album narrative by visually honoring a pivotal historical tragedy.
The experimental blend of abstract illustration and glitch-heavy motion design set it apart from traditional lyric videos or live-action music videos in the region.
