The Ola Electric mobile app enables riders to remotely interact with their scooter’s HMI (Human Machine Interface) dashboard. The app functions as a companion product for locking/unlocking the scooter, customizing ride preferences, managing charging, and controlling key dashboard elements such as display themes, navigation, and riding modes.

The Problem
Modern EV users expect their vehicles to provide seamless digital integration. However, early customer feedback revealed major usability issues:
Riders struggled to configure dashboard settings directly from the scooter due to limited physical interaction controls and a small on-vehicle touchscreen.
Switching themes, customizing widgets, or updating navigation required multiple manual steps.
Routine interactions (like checking charge, ride modes, or trip history) were time-consuming when done only on the scooter HMI.
Lack of remote control created friction and reduced overall satisfaction.

Design System:
The design system established a shared visual language across both the mobile app and the scooter HMI, unifying color tokens, typography, iconography, and spacing guidelines. A reusable library of scalable modular UI components enabled rapid screen creation and ensured consistency.
Accessibility was prioritized through high-contrast visuals for outdoor sunlight readability and larger touch targets suitable for riding scenarios. The system also supported dynamic theming, allowing the interface to adapt based on ride modes and personalization preferences.

The redesigned Ola Electric app positions the scooter as a connected IoT device rather than a standalone product.
