Plumped CLT: Building a Shopify Store That Sells Both Trust and Product

Plumped CLT sits in an odd spot for eCommerce: it's a med-spa brand selling Botox consultations and skincare serums on the same site. Most Shopify builds are built for one kind of customer. This one needed to work for two — someone booking a $600 injectable treatment, and someone adding a $45 moisturizer to cart on their lunch break — without either experience feeling like an afterthought.
That was the real brief. Not "build a Shopify store." Build one that doesn't flinch when it has to be a booking funnel and a checkout flow at the same time.

The Problem With Two Audiences

Aesthetic clinics live and die by trust. Someone considering PDO threads or laser treatment wants to feel like they're in expert hands before they'll even think about pricing. That's a slow, education-first journey — lots of reassurance, before/after proof, practitioner credibility.
Skincare shoppers move differently. They know the brand, they know what they want, and every extra click between them and checkout is friction.
Cram both into a standard Shopify theme and you usually get a homepage that tries to do everything and ends up saying nothing — treatments buried under product grids, or product discovery lost behind service copy. The navigation either overwhelms first-time visitors or under-serves returning ones.

What I Actually Built

Rather than force one template to serve both journeys, I split the experience at the architecture level — distinct section flows for services versus shopping — while keeping the visual language consistent enough that it never feels like two different websites stitched together.
On the treatment side, I restructured how injectables, facials, PDO threads, RF treatments, laser services, and skin rejuvenation were presented. Each service got room to breathe: enough space to explain what it is and why this clinic before ever asking for a decision. Before/after storytelling, testimonials, and financing visibility were woven in at the moments where hesitation typically kills conversions.
On the commerce side, I built out brand-focused collections and cleaner product categorization so skincare shoppers could browse by brand or bestseller without wading through service pages. Mobile browsing got particular attention here, since most of this traffic checks out on a phone between other things.
Underneath both, the same design principles held everything together:
Editorial-style layouts with real typographic hierarchy — not default Shopify spacing
CTAs placed where intent actually peaks, not just at the bottom of every section
A component architecture built to extend, so adding new treatments or product lines later doesn't mean rebuilding pages

The Stack

Custom Shopify Liquid theme work, hand-built sections rather than stock blocks, responsive HTML5/CSS3/JavaScript throughout, and a mobile-first build process from the first wireframe onward — since the split traffic pattern (research-heavy desktop sessions vs. quick mobile purchases) made "mobile-friendly" not enough on its own.

What Changed

The site now does the thing it was supposed to do from day one: a visitor can land looking for a consultation and never feel like they wandered into a store, or land looking for a serum and never feel like they're being sold a procedure. Trust-building and transacting coexist on the same domain without competing for the same screen real estate.
For a brand where the average treatment ticket and the average product price differ by an order of magnitude, that separation — done without sacrificing a cohesive luxury feel — was the actual win. Live Website
