In 2021, Moneymie reached out to us for help in improving their product and services. They offer a platform for African migrants in the U.S. to send money back home. Users can also exchange money, pay bills, save, buy airtime, and send money to friends using a P2P system.
Pixelgum Studio worked with the Moneymie team to enhance their onboarding process, user flows, landing pages, and the overall look and feel of the app for thousands of migrants wanting to send money to their loved ones.

Improving the onboarding experience

The onboarding experience was causing significant friction, particularly when calling API endpoints. Our wallet providers required a thorough KYC process, which involved collecting user identity details such as name, phone number, email, Social Security Number (SSN), a selfie, and a photo ID before generating a wallet for each user. Additionally, from a business perspective, we needed to ask for usernames to facilitate P2P operations within the app.
To address these friction points, we integrated the collection of the SSN, selfie, and ID directly into the app to create a smoother registration process for users.
We also conducted virtual user interviews due to location constraints, creating user personas based on their feedback. To encourage participation, we developed a signup form for users to express their intent and offered a $30 tip for sharing their experiences with the app. As a result, over 20 users signed up, and we conducted interviews to gain insights into their experiences using the Moneymie app.

New landing page and look

We improved our landing page starting from the copies, we wanted to be a place that allows migrants send money , and get advice for migrants to thrive, we wanted to display this in our screenshots.
We also wanted to offer educational resources for migrants because one of the main issues migrants face is finding how to navigate a new country, Moneymie wants to help with that and and this is clear in our designs.

Transactions, Popups and Screens

Transactions are a significant part of Moneymie, encompassing various types such as funding (via bank or card), sending money (P2P, international, or local), and receiving money. All transactions follow a similar process.
In the send flow, when money is sent locally within the U.S., it goes through several states, including "In Progress," "Completed," and "Failed," depending on the status of the transaction. We also provide clarity on funding, illustrating how to add money to your account and showcasing the success and failure scenarios.
Whenever a transaction is performed, a receipt is attached and sent to both the sender and receiver to ensure clarity and security. Additionally, setting up recurring payments is made easy after any transaction is completed.

Iconography, Colors and Design system

The Moneymie design system comprises a set of components designed to ensure a consistent look and feel across all platforms. It features two primary colors and five secondary colors, each with various tints and shades for different scenarios. To maintain consistency and usability throughout the system, we also include a collection of over 45 double-tone icons. Our typography system utilizes a sans-serif font called DM Sans, which is applied across the mobile app, web app, and landing pages. Additionally, we have developed popups to represent various states, including error messages, verification actions, identity security, and account access.
