High-Fidelity Interactive Prototype for Boston Consulting Group

Overview

In collaboration with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), I was engaged to design a high-fidelity interactive prototype that would serve as a centerpiece for a critical presentation. The objective was to develop a prototype that would visually and interactively communicate a specific user scenario, allowing stakeholders to experience the proposed solution firsthand. The project aimed to enhance the presentation by providing a dynamic, tangible example of the envisioned user journey, bridging the gap between conceptual ideas and real-world application.

Project Scope

BCG approached me with the need to create a high-fidelity prototype that could be showcased alongside their presentation deck. The prototype was to focus on a few key screens that demonstrated the core functionalities and user interactions of the proposed solution. The deliverable needed to include interactive elements and UI animations that would guide stakeholders through a specific user scenario during the presentation.
My role was to translate their ideas into a functional, clickable prototype that could convincingly illustrate the solution’s value proposition. The challenge was to ensure that the prototype was not only visually compelling but also effective in conveying the intended user experience and usability.

Design Process

To start, I conducted several discovery sessions with the BCG team to fully understand their vision, target audience, and presentation goals. These discussions were crucial for identifying the key elements of the user scenario that needed to be highlighted and the specific interactions that would make the prototype engaging and informative.
Based on the insights gathered, I decided to create a high-fidelity clickable prototype using a design tool that supported interactive elements and animations. The goal was to build a prototype that would allow stakeholders to interact directly with the screens, providing a hands-on understanding of how the proposed solution would function in a real-world context.
During the design phase, I focused on:
Defining the User Flow: I carefully mapped out a streamlined user journey, focusing on critical touchpoints and interactions that would best illustrate the value of the solution.
Crafting High-Fidelity Screens: I designed each screen with attention to detail, ensuring that the visual aesthetics aligned with BCG’s brand identity while also being intuitive and user-friendly.
Incorporating UI Animations and Interactions: To enhance the user experience, I added subtle animations and transitions between actions. These elements were designed to make the prototype feel polished and dynamic, helping to maintain stakeholder engagement throughout the presentation.

Challenges Faced

One of the primary challenges was determining the right level of fidelity for the prototype. It needed to be detailed enough to accurately reflect the user scenario but not so complex that it would overwhelm stakeholders or divert focus from the core messaging of the presentation. I addressed this by prioritizing key screens and interactions that were essential to the narrative, ensuring that every element served a specific purpose.
Another challenge was selecting the best format for the deliverable. BCG was open to various options, including an interactive prototype, a video recording, or an HTML prototype. After assessing the context in which the prototype would be presented and the interactive needs of the audience, I recommended a high-fidelity clickable prototype. This option allowed for real-time interaction during the presentation, enabling the team to adapt the demonstration based on stakeholder feedback and questions.

Final Deliverables

The final deliverable was a high-fidelity clickable prototype featuring selected screens that illustrated a specific user scenario. The prototype was designed with interactive elements and animations that allowed for seamless navigation through the user journey. It was presented as a dynamic tool alongside the presentation deck, effectively guiding stakeholders through the proposed solution.

Results and Impact

The prototype had a significant impact during the presentation, successfully transforming abstract ideas into a tangible experience. Stakeholders were able to engage directly with the prototype, exploring the user journey in a way that text or static images could not achieve. This hands-on experience helped to clarify the solution’s value proposition and fostered a deeper understanding of the design's benefits.
The prototype also enhanced the overall presentation by adding a layer of interactivity and immersion, making the pitch more compelling and memorable. As a result, BCG was able to better communicate their strategic vision and build stronger alignment with their clients.

Benefits to the Client

For BCG, the high-fidelity prototype provided several key advantages:
Enhanced Communication: The interactive nature of the prototype allowed BCG to communicate their solution more effectively, bridging the gap between theoretical concepts and practical application.
Improved Stakeholder Engagement: By providing a tangible experience, the prototype fostered greater stakeholder engagement and interest, which was crucial for building buy-in and support.
Credibility and Trust: The polished, high-fidelity design helped build credibility with clients, demonstrating BCG's commitment to quality and innovation.

Reflections

This project was a great opportunity to apply both creative and strategic thinking to solve a real-world problem. By developing a high-fidelity, interactive prototype, I was able to bring BCG's vision to life in a way that resonated with their audience and added significant value to their presentation. The successful outcome reinforced the importance of thoughtful design and interactive elements in driving engagement and understanding, and I’m proud to have contributed to BCG’s efforts in such a meaningful way.

Conclusion

Designing the prototype for BCG was a dynamic, rewarding experience that underscored the value of interactive design in business presentations. The project demonstrated how a well-crafted prototype could transform abstract ideas into compelling, memorable experiences, helping clients like BCG effectively communicate their vision and strategy to their stakeholders.
