Diamed is a medical product and service design that enables Type 1 diabetes patients to track their illness and get their medication easier. It consists of a glucose meter with a biosensor, insulin injector and a smart phone application. The biosensor measures the blood glucose rate on the skin surface without taking blood and informs the patient about the next steps via the application.
RESEARCH
Diabetes is a difficult disease to manage. Patients have many challenges to handle on a daily basis; such as blood sugar monitoring, keep track of medication and insulin therapy. They need different devices for each process which makes the treatment even more stressful.To have a deeper understanding of daily management process of the disease, we carried out an ethnographic research with three diabetes patients. We observed and interviewed them in order to gather qualitative data. Our findings are presented as a journey map below.
RESEARCH INSIGHT
After a day of immersing ourselves in diabetes treatment and management processes we gathered some pain points. These insights showed us an opportunity in combining all blood monitoring process in one device as well as providing a pain-free experience.
USER FLOW
We created a user flow that unites all diabetes management in one device and an application. The user would use the device for analyzing blood glucose level and insulin injection, while following the instructions and tracking relevant data on an app.
FINAL PRODUCT
Diamed combines all blood monitoring process in one device and provides a non-invasive diabetes monitoring experience. The device consists of a biosensor that measures the blood sugar ratio, an insulin injector and an app to keep track of the disease.

The main screen displays all important data. Glucose level, carb / insulin intake and daily activity data visualized with graphics.
CARB TRACKER
With registering each meal, Diamed can count the glycemic load and show the current status. User can choose a meal between existing food presets or create a custom dish to be added in the list.
