Kunie Foundation - Visual Identity

Jeremiah Joseph

Kunie Foundation, a transformative NGO in Nigeria, sought to establish a compelling visual identity that reflected its mission of eradicating poverty and fostering sustainable community-led change. The challenge was to develop a brand identity that would communicate its values, resonate with its audience, and inspire action.
The objective was to create a distinctive and meaningful visual identity that would tell Kunie Foundation’s story in a compelling way, resonate with communities, donors, and partners, establish a memorable and versatile brand presence, and integrate cultural relevance while maintaining professionalism.
To address Kunie Foundation’s branding needs, I took a hands-on approach, starting with deep research to understand their mission and the people they serve. I explored different ways to visually represent their story, ensuring that every design choice had meaning. The process involved a lot of back-and-forth, refining ideas, and making sure the final identity wasn’t just aesthetically strong but also emotionally resonant. Then i set up a mood board to narrow down the design direction.

BRAND VALUES
The logo was designed as a symbol of hope, progress, and community-driven change. The half-circle base represents a rising sun—signifying new beginnings and a brighter future—while the five radiating rectangles symbolize sunrays, each embodying one of Kunie Foundation’s core values. The wordmark subtly integrates the Igbo word “Kunie,” adding cultural authenticity and deeper meaning
The entire visual system from the typography was carefully selected to be readable, and emotionally resonant, evoking reliability and collective strength while maintaining warmth and approachability. The color palette drew inspiration from nature, incorporating deep earth tones, shades of green, and warm sunrise hues, symbolizing growth, sustainability, and new beginnings.
To maintain consistency across all touchpoints, I developed clear brand guidelines defining logo usage, color palettes, and typography applications.
This cohesive visual identity was applied consistently across all brand touchpoints, including the website, social media templates, brochures, reports, promotional materials, and community engagement assets, ensuring a recognizable and unified brand image.
The Kunie Foundation Visual Identity Project successfully established a strong and meaningful brand presence. By integrating symbolism, cultural authenticity, and a compelling narrative, the new identity not only enhances recognition but also deepens emotional engagement with its stakeholders. With this refined identity, Kunie Foundation is now well-positioned to drive advocacy, mobilize resources, and foster lasting change in communities across Nigeria and beyond.
