This collection of booklets was created to open new doors into one of the most remarkable treasures of Belo Horizonte’s Pampulha region: the Curial Chapel of Saint Francis of Assisi — recently elevated to the status of Sanctuary and recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Each booklet tells part of the story of this iconic landmark. They weave together history, architecture, and faith, while also offering infographics and detailed data that had never before been so accessible to the wider public. From students in classrooms to visitors from across the world, the material was designed to make knowledge approachable, inspiring curiosity rather than overwhelming with complexity.
Because heritage belongs to everyone, the pedagogical team — of which I was a member — also prepared a special children’s edition. Through playful language and visuals, it invites younger readers to discover the Chapel’s beauty, ensuring that even those not yet ready for its full academic depth can still connect with its meaning and symbolism.
Visually, the booklets honour the Chapel itself. Their colours and graphic elements draw from Oscar Niemeyer’s iconic design, reflecting its curves, forms, and modernist spirit. This careful translation of architecture into visual language was essential: the client was the Church administration, and the subject a UNESCO-recognised masterpiece. By combining clarity, beauty, and respect, the collection celebrates the Chapel not only as a work of art and architecture, but also as a sanctuary — a place where history, spirituality, and culture converge.
