What If Ethnc Was Truly a Premium Brand?
ETHNC is a Pakistani fashion brand known for its relatively high price point. But to me, a premium brand is about more than the price on the tag. It’s about the quality of the product, the consistency of the identity, and the experience a customer receives at every touchpoint.
Looking at ETHNC from a design perspective, I felt there was an opportunity to create a stronger sense of personality and distinction, especially for a brand with ambitions of being recognized internationally.
So, I explored what ETHNC could look and feel like if the entire brand experience reflected the value it aims to deliver.
Logo & Identity
I started with the wordmark. Rather than completely changing the identity, I developed a more distinctive wordmark with subtle curves inspired by the fluidity of Urdu Nasta’liq calligraphy.
The existing rose symbol was retained because of its strong visual and cultural symbolism. I paired it with a simple “Pakistan” descriptor underneath, creating a stronger connection to its origin while also giving the brand more presence in international markets and storefront applications.
For the colour palette, I refined colours from ETHNC’s existing identity, using a deep royal purple paired with a soft beige. Together, they create a more understated and refined visual language while maintaining a connection to the existing brand.
Elevating the Brand Experience
For me, the rebrand couldn't stop at the logo. A premium brand is experienced through all the small details surrounding the product. I explored a series of touchpoints designed to make every interaction feel more considered:
Velvet hangers and garment bags to give clothing a sense of care and presentation.
Sustainable fabric dust bags for both in-store and courier packaging, replacing conventional polythene pouches.
Accessory pouches and premium shopping bags to elevate the experience beyond the clothing itself.
Custom shoe boxes with wrapping tissue to create a more memorable unboxing experience.
Staff uniforms with gold metal name badges to create a polished and recognizable in-store presence.
Clothing tags with detachable rose-shaped metal charms for festive collections, designed to be reused as bag charms rather than simply discarded.
The goal was to make packaging and brand collateral feel like an extension of the product, not an afterthought.
Showing the Product Differently
I also wanted the communication to focus more on the quality behind the clothing. Instead of relying solely on styled product photography, I explored close-up fabric videos that highlight the details customers don't always get to see online, the texture of the fabric, stitching, finishing, and overall craftsmanship. When a brand is positioned around quality, the visuals should give customers a reason to believe it.
The Customer Journey
The physical store was another important part of the experience. I imagined a more elevated fitting room environment with calm interiors, thoughtful lighting, and a comfortable waiting area for family and friends.
Shopping for clothes, particularly when you're trying multiple pieces, can easily become stressful or tiring. The goal was to make the experience feel slower, calmer, and more considered, closer to a boutique experience than a conventional retail visit.
Final Thought
This reimagination wasn't about making ETHNC look expensive for the sake of looking expensive.
It was about creating consistency between what the brand charges and what the customer experiences.
From the wordmark and packaging to the store environment and the way the product is presented, every touchpoint has an opportunity to communicate value.
The result is a version of ETHNC that moves beyond simply having a high price point and instead builds a more complete, considered, and premium brand experience.
