This animated poster captures the essence of Oshi no Ko, an anime that reveals the contrasting realities of the idol world—its dazzling allure and hidden struggles. My design intended to highlight the juxtaposition between idol culture's playful, endearing qualities and brutalism's raw, unfiltered aesthetics. By merging these contrasting styles, the poster creates a unique visual narrative that reflects the vibrancy and underlying complexity of the anime's themes.

The brutalist approach, characterized by stark typography and minimalist forms, contrasts the pastel tones, delicate imagery, and animated elements, symbolizing the cuteness and purity of the idol world. This deliberate interplay between harsh and soft aesthetics adds depth to the overall composition, inviting viewers to explore the dualities inherent in the story.

Through this design, I aim to reinterpret the traditional perception of idol culture by blending it with unconventional design principles, creating an engaging and thought-provoking visual experience.

The primary focus of this design exploration is the anime's dark portrayal of the J-pop idol industry. To capture the essence of the story, I developed a moodboard featuring nine carefully selected images that highlight the underlying themes of struggle and disillusionment within the idol culture.

Accompanying the moodboard is a custom color scheme that draws from the visuals and emotions depicted in the anime. This palette is designed to reinforce the narrative’s mood, using shades that evoke a sense of the dark realities hidden behind the glamorous facade of idol life.

Further enriching the research is an analysis of the song "Idol" by Yoasobi, which serves as the anime's opening theme. The song's lyrics and tone provide critical insights into the real challenges faced by idols, which I have integrated into the poster's conceptual development to ensure authenticity and emotional resonance.
