Digital Transformation of Workforce Management for NTACT Operations

About NTACT

NTACT Operations provides procurement, construction, instrumentation, and electrical services for the oil & gas and renewable energy industries.
Industry: Energy / Construction / EPC
Key Values: Safety, Efficiency, and Family-oriented culture.
Operational Context: Managing diverse teams across various divisions (Construction, I&E, Renewables) in active, safety-critical field environments.

Goal for NTACT

NTACT Operations sought to modernize their on-site time tracking. Moving away from an inefficient pen-and-paper reliance, we developed a robust, iPad-based Clock-In/Clock-Out system. The solution streamlines workforce management for supervisors, integrates mandatory safety checks, and is currently evolving to include advanced facial recognition technology.

My Role & Deliverables

I led the design execution for this project, bridging the gap between operational requirements and the final digital product. My focus was on creating a high-utility interface that could function seamlessly in rugged field environments.
Key Deliverables:
Wireframes: Established the core user flows and information architecture to ensure logical navigation for non-technical users.
Design System: Developed a scalable library of UI components, typography, and color standards aligned with NTACT's branding.
Clickable Prototype: Created high-fidelity interactive prototypes to validate workflows with stakeholders prior to development.
Developer Handoff: Provided a comprehensive handoff file including all assets, precise design guidelines, and technical annotations to streamline the implementation phase.

The Flow

We designed and developed a dedicated iPad application tailored for on-site Supervisors. The system digitizes the entire attendance flow while enforcing company structure and safety protocols.

Key Features

Supervisor-Centric Workflow: Supervisors retain control of the device (iPad), acting as the gatekeepers for their crew.
Multi-Entity Support: The login flow accounts for NTACT’s complex structure, allowing Supervisors to select the specific "Company" and "Division" (e.g., Construction vs. Instrumentation) they are managing that day.
Employee ID Verification: Employees simply enter their unique ID on the Supervisor's iPad to initiate a session.
Safety Integration: The "Clock Out" flow includes mandatory safety questions (e.g., "Did you have any safety incidents today?"), ensuring compliance and immediate incident reporting.
Photo Capture: A mandatory photo is taken during the clock-in/out process to create a visual audit trail.

Results & Impact

Since deploying the system on-site:
Eliminated Paperwork: The reliance on physical logbooks has been removed, saving administrative time and reducing data entry errors.
Enhanced Safety Reporting: The integration of daily safety questions provides management with immediate flags regarding potential incidents.
Client Satisfaction: NTACT Operations validated the efficiency gains, leading immediately to the approval of Phase 2. Building on the success of the photo-capture MVP, the client requested a friction-less upgrade.
