Think OpenTable, but for Salons and Beauty parlors

Bewdy is a platform that caters to both beauty enthusiasts and service providers, helping them to find and book the perfect services and grow their business. It is designed to provide an easy and convenient way for customers to book appointments with local salons and stylists and make payments with ease. It also offers service providers with a seamless way to manage their bookings, appointments, and payments. Additionally, Bewdy provides service providers with tools and resources to promote their services and reach a larger audience.

Challenge

People were having a hard time finding trustworthy and convenient beauty services, and small business owners were struggling to attract new customers and keep track of appointments. We saw a need for a platform that would focus on the needs of small businesses while also providing a seamless and reliable experience for customers.

The approach: Simple, lean and feature outcome oriented

The client came to us with a long list of requirements for the mobile products that they wanted us to design and build. We suspected however, that many of the features would not be useful to end-users or to the client themselves.
It appeared that the list was a compilation of features taken from competitors, so we knew we had to look beyond the product requirements document. To ensure that we were delivering a product that aligned with the client's high-level business goals and targets, we engaged in several meetings with them.
Our goal was to capture an outcome that would truly benefit the client and their end-users, so we advised the client to keep things simple first and then enhance the product with nice-to-have features in the future.

The discovery: Avoiding an Identity crisis

We were tasked with developing better functionality than our client's potential competitors, but we realized that simply engaging in a feature parity war would not be strategic or in the best interest of the customers.
The problem with trying to cater to everyone is that, in the end, it results in helping no one. Therefore, we decided to change our approach, we shifted our focus to developing a unique and desirable role for our app in an already mature and competitive market. We aimed to create something more meaningful that serves the needs of our users, rather than just replicating our competitors' features. By doing so, we were able to deliver a product that stands out in the market and offers a unique value proposition to its users.

Setting the Design Direction

Through collaborative sketching with the client, we were able to refine and solidify the high-level design language, interactions, and app anatomy.

Solution

By conducting a thorough analysis of customer needs and market competition, I was able to uncover under-served customer needs and these key insights defined the launch version of the product. I was also able to identify opportunities for Bewdy to differentiate itself from competitors and provide unique value to its users.

PROGRESSIVE ONBOARDING PROCESS FOR EASE AND CLARITY

We designed a custom onboarding process that employed the use of context, checklists and progress bars to help users keep track of all the necessary steps and provide them with a sense of accomplishment as they complete each step, motivating them to move forward.

ESTABLISHING TRUST

The new onboarding process communicated the need for service providers to provide their personal and business information to be able to demonstrate their professional credibility, making them more attractive to potential customers.

BEWDY FOR CUSTOMERS

The home screen of the customer's app provides quick access to primary functions, allowing users to customize their beauty services based on location, service type, ratings, and time slots. The app stores customer preferences and history, making the process more efficient by suggesting services and bookings. In addition, customers can provide more information in the detailed profile section about their beauty preferences, skin type, and allergies, which is used to make more informed and tailored recommendations for a unique and personalized experience.

IT'S ALL HAPPENING IN REAL TIME

To provide a seamless and efficient booking experience for beauty enthusiasts, we implemented real-time appointment management in our beauty service app. This feature allows customers to see the service provider's schedule in real-time and book appointments immediately, eliminating the need for manual updates or confirmations. This not only streamlines the booking process but also reduces wait times, leading to a better customer experience. The beta versions of these mobile apps are currently available on google play store and coming soon to the apple app store.
