Project overview

How do you deliver a platform that spans a public website, member accounts, streaming, course templates, checkout journeys, consent, and mobile apps?
One clear decision at a time.
Newbold College wanted to create a faith-shaped digital learning platform that could carry its educational expertise beyond the classroom and into everyday life.
Kajabi had already been selected. The focus extended well beyond its native templates and section library. The public website, member environment, course content, checkout journeys, and branded applications were managed through different parts of the platform, while the learner needed to experience them as one coherent product.
I worked closely with Alex Ghiorzi and the Newbold team for more than six months, taking the project from discovery and research through UX, visual design, custom development, QA, mobile apps config and launch.
Newbold Connect went live on 27 June 2026, ready for Newbold College's 125-year anniversary.

Where a project starts

The brief challenged me with depth and continued to evolve as the team learned more.
Newbold needed a distinctive learning experience that would remain manageable for its internal team after handover. It also needed a delivery process that could support structured approvals, a wider group of decision-makers, and a fixed launch date.
The problem was therefore larger than the interface. We needed to answer four connected questions:
What should the platform include?
How should learners move through it?
How could Kajabi support the intended experience?
How could the team make informed decisions without losing sight of scope and timing?
Quick release cycles are useful when a team can learn from live behaviour and adjust continuously. This project required more certainty before implementation. The cost of an unclear decision would travel across several templates, purchase journeys, and mobile touchpoints.

Widening the field before narrowing it

We began by exploring the problem broadly.
Moodboards and visual research helped the team compare possible directions. Market research clarified the conventions used by learning and streaming platforms. User research and journey mapping kept the experience connected to what learners needed to understand and do.
This stage was not about decorating an agreed solution. It was where the team found the solution together.
We then translated the research into information architecture and wireframes across the main public and member journeys. These included the home page, class discovery, pricing, instructors, content pages, member library, class detail, and mobile experiences.
The wireframes made uncertainty visible. The team could see where content was missing, where a journey felt unclear, and where one decision affected another part of the platform. Feedback became specific because it had something concrete to respond to.
By the time detailed design began, the project had a shared direction and an understood sequence of work.

From shared direction to one design system

The public website and member environment serve different jobs.
The public experience introduces Newbold Connect, explains its value, builds trust, supports class discovery, and guides a person towards a purchase decision.
The member experience helps a learner find content, continue a lesson, understand progress, and return without needing to relearn the interface.
I created one visual system across typography, colour, imagery, spacing, cards, navigation, and content hierarchy, then adapted it to Kajabi's different template environments.
This allowed each area to perform its own role while preserving a coherent journey from first visit through purchase, account access, class discovery, and continued learning.

More than 25 custom Kajabi modules

Kajabi's native section library could not support many of the layouts and content behaviours required by the project.
I designed and developed more than 25 custom modules across the public website and platform templates. The system included class showcases, content grids, media layouts, instructor sections, pricing components, accordions, calls to action, navigation patterns, and other reusable building blocks.
Each module remained editable inside Kajabi. The Newbold team can change copy, images, links, and content without editing code or rebuilding the underlying layout.
That was an important part of the brief. The platform needed to support Newbold after launch as well as represent the organisation at launch.

Extending Kajabi where the project required it

The work extended beyond page layouts.
Newbold needed purchase journeys that could support different currencies. I designed a custom front-end pricing experience that coordinates separate Kajabi offers while keeping the route into checkout clear.
The project also required a bespoke consent implementation. The solution gave Newbold control over consent behaviour without introducing another subscription-based service.
Across the platform, interface terminology was reviewed so the experience spoke the language of education and learning rather than exposing Kajabi's internal product terms.

A connected mobile experience

Newbold Connect also extended into Kajabi's branded-app pathway for iOS and Android.
My work covered app experience planning, brand configuration, onboarding design, navigation recommendations, custom screen direction, app-store asset preparation, and coordination across the Newbold and Kajabi teams.
The app was planned as another entry point into the same learning ecosystem. It helps learners return to classes, continue lessons, and stay connected from a mobile device.

Keeping the route visible

The scope evolved during the project. A useful delivery process needed to accommodate that reality without allowing changes to become surprises.
Work was broken into visible stages. Open questions were documented. Feedback was connected to specific decisions. When the scope changed, the effect on work and timing was clarified and agreed before implementation continued.
This gave the client a consistent view of four things:
What had been completed
What was currently being worked through
What still required a decision
What would happen next
The same structure carried through responsive testing, content checks, platform QA, mobile coordination, and launch preparation.
Clarity was part of how the project was delivered.

The outcome

Newbold Connect launched on 27 June 2026, ready for Newbold College's 125-year anniversary.
The final delivery included:
A complete public-facing Kajabi website
Member accounts and class library experience
Redesigned player and dynamic course templates
More than 25 custom designed and developed modules
Public class discovery and content pathways
Multi-currency purchase journeys
Bespoke consent implementation
Responsive design across desktop and mobile
Branded-app experience for iOS and Android
App onboarding and store-delivery coordination
Documentation, QA, and handover for the Newbold team
The completed platform gives learners one connected route through discovery, purchase, and continued learning. It also gives Newbold an editable system its team can operate after handover.
