RetroSS is a web animation concept inspired by the early days of personal computing, pixel interfaces, and desktop operating systems from the late 90s and early 2000s.
The project explores how nostalgia can be used as a storytelling device by recreating familiar digital moments through motion, interaction, and visual design. Rather than building a functional operating system, the goal was to capture the feeling of discovering a computer for the first time.
Design Goal
The goal was to create an animation that feels:
Nostalgic
Playful
Unexpected
Interactive
Memorable
I wanted viewers to immediately recognize visual references from classic operating systems while experiencing them through a modern motion design lens.
Motion Design
Motion was the primary focus of the project.
Every animation was designed to feel intentional and slightly exaggerated, mimicking the behavior of older software while introducing smoother modern transitions.
