Hrvst is a digital farmer’s market that connects retail and wholesale consumers to locally sourced vegetables, fruits and meats. This supports local agriculture and contributes to a sustainable food system.

THE CHALLENGE

In Zambia, a significant disconnect exists between agricultural producers and purchasers.
For producers
Producers, often isolated in remote areas, are unaware of reliable markets or platforms where they can sell their commodities at profitable prices. This lack of market access and information leads to under pricing or wasted produce.
For purchasers
On the other hand, buyers in urban centers struggle to find consistent sources of high quality agricultural products at competitive rates. This gap in communication and information flow hampers efficient market operations, ultimately affecting the economy and livelihoods of both producers and purchasers.

THE GOAL

To create a mobile application (called Hrvst) where customers can buy fresh agriculture produce at affordable prices and have them delivered to their desired locations.
The Hrvst platform was separated in two mobile applications; Hrvst - a platform for customers to buy product and Hrvst Vndr - a mobile application where Vendors or producers can create their storefronts, list products, manage orders and deliveries.

Since Hrvst was the first of its kind in Zambia, we did not have any competitors within the country. We decided to look at applications operating in the ecommerce space to evaluate their strengths and identify best practices that could be applied to our own app.

ORDER MANAGEMENT

Allowing customers to track the delivery of the products they buy
Allowing customers to manage orders and track the delivery of the products they buy offers them complete control over their shopping experience. This feature provides real-time updates and detailed information on their orders, ensuring transparency and convenience every step of the way.

IMPACT

This effort resulted in a remarkable 110.16% revenue growth and an impressive 108.47% increase in GMV during Q2-2023, just nine months after the marketplace’s debut in 2022.
