Goal

Perform a rigorous heuristic evaluation of XYZ Insurance Software's Agent and Policyholder desktop portals, outlining comprehensive recommendations for each identified issue.
Define a future state design for a critical workflow, aligning seamlessly with our proposed recommendations.
Earn continued work with XYZ Insurance Software by proving my company's capabilities and showcasing the opportunities to improve XYZ Insurance Software's experience.

Context

XYZ Insurance Software provides policy administration software and services for insurance companies and banks offering insurance products. MDI's premier product is FIMMAS, the Flexible Insurance Marketing, Management, and Administration System.

Opportunities

Implement a Design System. The implementation of a design system would provide a framework for creating cohesive, efficient, and user-centered experiences while empowering teams to collaborate effectively and maintain brand integrity as experiences scale.
Content design that considers user goals. It’s a vital part of experience design and is far more than just ‘getting someone in to do the words’. Great content design is never an afterthought; it’s about prioritizing information and viewing all of your content as service touchpoints.
Streamline data entry interactions. Inputting information is often a critical part of what the user is trying to achieve, and therefore streamlining these interactions will save users significant time and eliminate potential frustration.
Present data based on user needs. The best solution will depend on the data type, what your user needs to understand from the data, and your users’ level of expertise or technical proficiency. Solutions include paragraphs of text, data tables, graphs, interactive animations, words, or numbers.

Future state experience

To define the future state experience, we aligned with the stakeholders on the most impactful journey to tell. The result was Judy the Policyholder and her journey to add her 2nd child as a beneficiary to her term life policy.

Outcomes

This engagement was well-received and led to a second phase where another team would help re-design another piece of software under the 
Insurance XYZ umbrella.
Through my work, the Insurance XYZ team also began talks to run a project that would continue the work I began on creating a design system for their line of products. The contract to design & build the entire Agent and Policyholder portal experiences are also underway.
