Case Study — Sound Design & Music for the Greadme Explainer

Project

Create an audio experience that makes a technical product feel clear, modern, and trustworthy—while guiding viewers from “solution” to “use cases” without losing momentum.
Role: Original Music + Sound Design + Mix

Challenge

Support a dense, UI-led story without overwhelming the voiceover.
Signal section changes (solution → features → use cases) with energy shifts that feel seamless.
Give the product a recognizable sonic fingerprint.

Musical Direction

Concept: Atmospheric + upbeat score that drives the narrative.
Core motif: A soft, felt-like piano with ambient touches serves as Greadme’s “voice.” Short, memorable motifs appear whenever the product is introduced or highlighted, subtly branding the experience.
Texture & pacing: Airy pads, light pulses, and minimal percussion build forward motion without crowding the VO. The harmony stays optimistic and open; rhythmic elements lift as the story progresses.
Narrative arcs:
Solution intro: Spacious bed with gentle piano statements → establishes calm and credibility.
How it works / scanning: Subtle rhythmic pulse and evolving pads → communicates movement and depth.
Results & dashboards: Motif variations with brighter voicings and a light groove → sense of clarity and achievement.
Use cases: Wider stereo image and added percussive lift → feels expansive and actionable.

Sound Design

Goal: Make interactions feel intuitive and premium.
UI Interactions: Clicks, hovers, and confirmations designed with short, soft-attack transients and smooth decays. Each sits in a mid-high band to cut through quietly without sharpness.
Tuned Transitions: Section and window transitions use pad-based swells tuned to the track’s key. Because these are sourced from the score’s sound palette, they glue scenes together and avoid the “SFX pasted on top” feel.
Micro-feedback: Success/check and text moments get a two-note upward interval derived from the piano motif

Implementation & Mix

Spotting & cueing: Music map built from the storyboard frames; cues timed to cursor movements, modal reveals, and metric changes.
Dynamics: Section lifts achieved with arrangement (layering and motif variation) rather than sheer loudness, keeping perceived energy high while maintaining headroom.
Consistency: Shared sound palette (piano, pads, light pulses) ensures SFX and score feel like one system.
Deliverables: Full mix, VO, music-only and SFX-only

Outcome

Clear narrative drive from opening problem to practical outcomes.
A recognizable, product-aligned piano motif that quietly brands the experience.
UI feels responsive and premium thanks to tuned transitions and cohesive palette.
