OVERVIEW

As the designer for a fintech startup aimed at helping individuals and families with low socioeconomic status understand money better, I proposed and implemented a solution that was focused around making and achieving financial wellness easy and accessible. The user-centric approach, from onboarding to gamified goal-setting adventures, resulted in a remarkable 3% increase in user adoption rates. This collaborative effort earned our app 5-star ratings on both Apple Store and Google Play. Outside the app, developing a design system not only improved team communication but also increased design efficiency by 10%. This project isn't just about cool designs; it's proof that design can make a big difference in helping everyone make positive changes in their relationship with money.

THE CHALLENGE

Design a product that could shake up how we approach financial planning and empowerment.
The onboarding process emerged as our biggest challenge. We aimed to create an environment of immediate trust, where users felt comfortable sharing sensitive information and allowing us to guide them towards financial freedom.

THE SOLUTION

I conceived a product that tailored to our target audience. Rooted in comprehensive user research, our onboarding process was intentionally crafted to include lifestyle questions. We threw in this personal touch to create custom financial plans, recognizing that everyone's situation is unique and has a diverse set of circumstances.

As a financial wellness service provider, our app and products must be developed with our end users in mind -- people traditionally without access to the tools and resources that can help build wealth. - Valery Mooley, Founder

THE RESULT

The product is based on the reality that millions of Americans, particularly women and individuals from underserved communities, are not taught financial literacy. The goal is to create an all-in-one product that helps people not only create budgets, manage their money, and create savings goals, but also educate users on financial literacy in a fun and interactive way.
