An innovative addition to the Roberts audio products.

Working on a brief set by Glen Dimplex as a result of a competition, I was tasked to create an innovative new concept for a new Roberts headphones user provided in the brief. Throughout this process, I was in contact with the industry experts from Glen Dimplex who set the brief.

Core to this project was understanding the user and the Roberts brand identity. So, I began to visualise the brand and archetype.

Speaking with users who reflected the archetypes about which audio device would fit into their lifestyles, compact headphones were decided upon.
Using the Roberts visual board for reference, I produced a range of sketches which reflected both the brand and the archetype. Narrowing the desired elements down into more refined sketches with guidance from the industry experts to ask the users for feedback.

Speaking with users who reflected the archetypes was integral to this project, thusly they were consistently giving feedback on elements that appealed to them.
Once the sketching element of the visualisation for the headphones were in the final stages, as discussed with the users and industry experts, I began modelling. These were to get a feel for the headphone’s dimensions, considering the width, the feel on the head, and how they would be compacted in a bag on the go.

The final solution is the ‘Band’ Roberts Headphones.
Headphones would be a new addition to the Roberts brand, bringing a compact alternative to the radios and speakers which are a staple to Roberts Radio.

These have a black exterior with a pop of colour on the interior which can reflect any of the Roberts radio colours, hand stitching down the seams to reflect the handles featured throughout the iconic Roberts Revival range. The metallic silver dials on the side area for are a sleek nod to the buttons and dials found on the radios, whist also easy to use being on the side of the head. The Roberts logo is featured on the side of the band for adjustability.
