Splice, three years across desktop and mobile at a platform of millions

Software engineer at Splice, working on the desktop sample library, the mobile app, and CoSo, its AI music tool, for a platform used by millions of makers.

Overview

Splice is where a huge share of modern music starts: a catalog of millions of sounds, loops, and presets that producers pull straight into their tracks. I spent about three years there as a software engineer, working across the products people actually create in. The desktop app that is the hub of the whole library, the mobile app that put it in your pocket, and CoSo, an AI tool for generating musical ideas. This is past work. I left in early 2024 and now build independently through my studio, Ackrite.

Role and approach

I worked as a front-end engineer across the Angular and Flutter stacks, close to product and design the whole way. On desktop the focus was clean, fast, pixel-accurate interfaces sitting over a catalog of millions of assets. On mobile it was taking newer ideas, including AI-assisted music creation, and turning them into something that felt simple to use, then folding those pieces into the main app without breaking what was already there.

Key contributions

Desktop sample library. On the desktop app, the central hub of the Splice ecosystem, I worked on core asset features in Angular and TypeScript: adding sounds to your library, buying assets with account credits, and favoriting sounds so they stayed a click away. I was an active contributor to the Storybook component library, building reusable UI that kept the product visually consistent and cut redundant code across the team.
Mobile and CoSo. On mobile I worked in Flutter, building front-end for CoSo, an AI-driven app that generated musical ideas. That covered the main AI interaction interface, the Stacks feature for layering sounds, and the flows for saving and purchasing AI-generated assets.
Unification. When CoSo merged into the main Splice mobile app, I worked on embedding those components into the larger product while keeping performance and behavior intact, so two apps became one experience.
Data and analytics. I connected the Flutter front-end to Splice's backend catalog over GraphQL, working with millions of sounds and user assets, and put Segment event tracking across the unified app so the team could see how people actually used it.

Outcome

Across three years I shipped features that millions of creators touched, from browsing and buying sounds on desktop to making music with AI on mobile, and helped bring two mobile products into a single platform. Steady, product-critical work on tools at real scale.
