She gave him the altar, the fire, the hymn
and still, he answered with silence.
Let him pray to the absence
the last god she made for him.
And now she stands outside the temple, whole.
What a mercy, to stop hoping at last.
What freedom, to love without needing it returned.
She left the room,
but stayed with herself.
And he was left all alone
