Pixelogy, Brandology & Storytelling: Three Original Academic Coursebooks

The Challenge
When I joined the Descomplica UniAmérica Colleg as a professor, the existing course materials weren't built for the way creative professionals actually learn. The content was generic, disconnected from industry reality, and not designed to develop the kind of critical thinking that a creative career demands. I decided to write everything from scratch.
The Work
Three original academic coursebooks, each tackling a different pillar of creative education:
Pixelogy covers the full landscape of digital illustration, from the historical roots of visual representation to raster, vector, 3D, and AI-generated imagery. Brandology maps the journey from communication theory to modern brand positioning, purpose, and visual identity systems. Storytelling connects advertising creation to semiotics, archetypes, and emotional strategy, showing students how narrative becomes a business tool.

Storytelling - 24 Pages / 3 Chapters

A practical introduction to advertising storytelling, bridging historical foundations with techniques such as archetypes, semiotics, and emotional connection. Designed for communication students and professionals, the coursebook shows how to transform narratives into strategic tools for engaging audiences and strengthening brands.

Pixelogy - 37 Pages / 5 Chapters

An accessible and comprehensive introduction to the world of digital creation, covering everything from the historical foundations of visual representation to contemporary techniques and tools such as raster illustration, vector art, 3D, and AI-generated imagery. Designed for students and creative professionals, the coursebook combines theory, practice, and critical reflection on the role of the illustrator in the digital information age.

Brandology - 39 Pages / 5 Chapters

A practical introduction to branding and visual identity, connecting the historical foundations of communication with modern techniques in positioning, purpose, and design. Designed for students and creative professionals, the coursebook shows how to transform ideas into authentic and relevant brands, exploring strategy, narrative, and user experience as the core pillars of value creation.
Each coursebook was written in Brazilian Portuguese following a slow-learning methodology: theory and practice in balance, with critical reflection built into every chapter rather than saved for the end.
The Approach
The naming itself was intentional. Coining "Pixelogy" and "Brandology" framed the subjects as disciplines worthy of serious study, not just software tutorials or trend reports. The content strategy across all three was consistent: ground every concept historically, apply it practically, and challenge the student to think about their role in a broader cultural and economic context.
The Result
Three structured, original bodies of work used as primary course materials for Graphic Design and Advertising undergraduate programmes, designed to prepare students for an AI-native creative economy.
