Stars In The Sky - The Michael Tok Foundation

When you go through something not many other people have at your age, it gives you the opportunity to do something more with the experience you have. I can never have the life I wanted with Mike, but I have to somehow make something close to as good. For me, that is living through him, leaving him a legacy, so that he can continue to get out there, and serve others with love and kindness, and help other people still.

Young people are cancers lost generation, often forgotten in the middle and with little improvement in survival rates for this age group.  Sarcoma accounts for 1% of cancer in young people, making it a very rare cancer, but with large impacts.

Unfortunately, due to the rare prevalence of sarcoma, it is over left misdiagnosed in young people, resulting in late diagnoses and poor prognoses. 

Stars in the Sky is Michael’s legacy. A foundation with the goal of preventing sarcoma fatalities by raising community awareness of sarcoma in young people through the provision of free education on sarcoma cancer and early symptoms.

In addition to raising awareness, I aim to grow Mike’s foundation to

•      Offer support services to young people and their families diagnosed with sarcoma.

•      Supports research into sarcoma detection and cures through fundraising and information to research bodies.

•      Create a space for grieving families and encouraging legacy work for young people who have lost their lives to cancer. Young people have more of a story to tell than anyone and it deserves to be shared. They are all stars in the sky, helping us, help others from above.

Stars in the Sky is how Mike, his energy, lessons and inspiration will continue to live on and serve others the way he wanted.

 That is the dream.

Michael is an incredibly creative person, with a large passion for music and art. It is very important to me to preserve Mike's energy and create a foundation that serves young people. With this intention I have envisioned a Foundation which is youth-centric, appealing to likes of teenagers and young adults similar Michael, whose interests and passions continuing to define them regardless of their illness.

This has begun with flicking through Mike's sketches and digitising his work - the basis for Star's in the Sky's identity.

Whenever someone would say to Mike “I am sorry to hear about you’re going through”, he would always respond with “Don’t be sorry, as this has been nothing but a positive experience, and one of best thing that has ever happened to me”.  This is a message I aim to resonate throughout the Foundation, to carry Mike's positivity as he became in touch with his true self over the course of his illness.

As Mike would preach... it's not uncool to be sick!!!

UPDATE 25/02/2023 - Stars In The Sky has officially rolled out on socials and received an incredible amount of support. We have big things coming!
