Digital Literacy Pathways

Eileen Porzuczek

Digital Literacy Pathways: An educator’s guide to digital literacy is a professional learning series that recognizes that for K-5 students to master digital literacy skills, educators must be better supported in their digital literacy instructional efforts. A Samsung survey reported that 37 percent of educators want to use technology in the classroom but do not know how to implement technology. Additionally, more than one-third of educators believe that fundamental training and resources would be most helpful (Smith, 2019). Digital Literacy Pathways was developed to address this problem space and provide K-5 educators with training to help their students become digitally literate through cross-curricular instruction.
Our project team developed content for 10 training modules (an introduction module, a module for each of the eight components of digital literacy, and a conclusion module), which were each divided into three sections:
Read and Watch
Explore and Do
Share and Discover
All of the content in these modules was then reviewed by seven K-5 educators in Indiana. After revisions were made, all 21 videos across the 10 modules were produced and edited for website production.
Digital Literacy Pathways: An educator's guide to digital literacy will launch for Beta testing in Summer 2021 with the hopes to nationally launch sometime in 2022.
