Why I love Interviews

Kolawole Oluwanifemi

𝗜 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄𝘀 (𝗺𝗮𝘆𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝗼 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 😊 ) In the space of 2 years, (for my Expert and African Series) I had the pleasure of sitting down with over 30 experts from various disciplines—operations, marketing, sales, product management, project management, cybersecurity, telecommunications, software engineering, legal—you name it! These professionals have done impressive work in companies like Google, Clubhouse, Microsoft, Konga, MTN, across Nigeria, Kenya, Cameroon, Benin Republic, Senegal, US, Canada, and the UK. What makes these interviews special for me is that I see them more as conversations than formal interrogations. I admit that I love speaking with people than I love to write. For a start, I make it a point to be comfortable and genuine, even when speaking with experts who might be more experienced than I am. This comfort is contagious and allows my interviewees to relax, open up, and be themselves. I rarely follow a script. Instead, I let the conversation flow naturally. This approach has led to some delightful detours – from discussing skincare routines to sharing stories about pets and even talking about a love for cooking but not eating! These candid moments bring out the human side of these incredible professionals, making the interaction genuine and enriching. One of my favorite parts of the process is asking my guests what they thought of our conversation afterward. Hearing that they enjoyed speaking with me is always a joy! Creating a space where experts can be themselves, share their insights, and even their quirks, is incredibly rewarding. It’s not just about gathering information; it’s about connecting on a deeper level and fostering genuine relationships. Here’s to many more insightful, fun, and human conversations!
