Directing and Editing the investor hype video for YellowHeart was a chance to distill a bold, futuristic vision into a compact, adrenaline-pumping pitch that could make even the most skeptical investor lean forward in their seat. As the video editor, my mission was to take a mix of raw interview footage and b-roll and turn it into a narrative that screamed opportunity, disruption, and dollar signs, all while keeping it tight and irresistible. This was about selling the dream of revolutionizing live events with NFT ticketing, and I had to make every second count.
Pre-Production and Vision Alignment
The process started with a brief from YellowHeart’s team. They wanted a hype reel to hook investors, which ended up proving successful after raising $7 million the year after I directed this video for them. The directive was clear: showcase how YellowHeart’s blockchain tech kills scalping, empowers artists, and turns tickets into living, collectible assets—all in a way that screams “this is the future of live events.”
I mapped it out: open with a bang to grab attention, dive into the broken ticketing industry, unveil YellowHeart’s Web3 fix, flaunt their traction, and close with a “join the revolution” flex. Runtime target was 3 minutes—short enough for busy VCs, long enough to sell the stakes.
Crafting the Opening Hook
The first 10 seconds were make-or-break. I grabbed a frenetic montage of live events and music stars. From this, I intro our "hero", Josh Katz, founder of YellowHeart on a mission to save the broken live event ticketing industry.
Building the Narrative
Next, I painted the problem. Highlighting the inefficiency of the current live ticketing system equals missed profit from the creators. Then the pivot: enter YellowHeart and showcase how NFT ticketing and solve this problem for everyone while eliminating the middle man who is robbing the artists of profit while inflating prices for consumers.
