I asked ChatGPT to write an SEO article for me
I wanted to test ChatGPT's reliability so I asked it to write an SEO article titled:
"Genome Editing Pros and Cons: What Do You Need To Know"
Instructions in the prompt:
Primary keyword: genome editing pros and cons
Secondary Keyword: gene editing pros and cons, genome editing advantages disadvantages
Number of words: 2000
Headings, subheadings, and bullet
And asked it to only take its data from research publications, and provide their references in the end.
How it went:
Plus points
It wrote me a complete article in just two minutes.
The content was well-structured and included H1,H2,H3 Headings and bullets
It was very explanatory and very defined. It gave multiple examples.
BUT...
There were major red flags.
Negative points
Despite my input of 2000 words, it gave me an article of 1300 words. I asked it to make it longer, yet it kept giving me the same results.
Some of the pros of H2 were repeated, as were some of the cons of H2. The text was also repeated over and over in the article.
CHATGPT failed to provide references in the end. I asked it "Where did you take the information from?" and it said: "the internet, duhh!"
It didn't take its content from publications, which I asked it for. The sources were untrustworthy.
I checked its plagiarism, and it was more than 60%.
Despite all of this, I decided to give it a go.
So, I published it on Medium:

Google loves to rank the content of "higher authority score" domains like Medium.com. I was sure, it'd rank on the first page.
AND IT DID.
Within, 24 hours,
the article was ranked on the fourth position on the first page of Google for the primary keyword, and the seventh position for the secondary keyword.
That's awesome, innit?
Wait...
After 48 hours,
The article went below to eighth position, for the primary keyword, still on the first page though.
For the secondary keyword, it was nowhere to be found.
After 72 hours,
The article was pushed to the second page of Google.
No clue about the secondary keyword.
After 96 hours,
It disappeared completely from Google.
After 12 months,
The good news is: that most of the traffic to this blog post is external - coming from search engines.
What I think:
I believe ChatGPT is a revolutionary tool. And I very much believe in the power of AI. But it needs A LOT OF refining. It still needs A LOT OF training, still. It's not yet capable of giving us SEO results.
Also, Google is limiting AI-generated content, which is NOT COOL.
