Ok Micah is a queer-owned Web Design and Branding Studio under the creative direction of Founder/CEO Micah Woods. I was contacted to establish their brand voice and write for their new Project + Service-focused website.
The Challenge
How to develop a brand voice that feels impersonally personal. Or build hype around services that not many creatives know the ins and outs of? The benefits of Micah's work were obvious: kick ass bespoke branding, site design, and builds in one go; one person to contract, work with, and manage.
We had to present Ok Micah as the one-of-a-kind designer that they are and have the voice attract new members within their target audience. It's not just a new website or new branding. It's an opportunity to build out an online presence that will attract your target audience and enable lasting relationships to form - working with Micah, who is vision-driven, is a bonus.
Finding the Brand Voice
As a queer-led business, seeking out queer and like-minded inclusive brands, the tone of voice needed to be at the intersection of playful, relatable, and provocative. As natural banter runs through the queer community, the best way to attract Micah's dream clientele, was to speak to them as a friend. We landed on a uniquely funny and informal personality that captures the energy of a charismatic, yet slightly subversive, gay person.
We took inspiration from a real-life, eccentric go-getter: Billy Eichner. We channeled the infectious energy that Billy brings to every video, conversation, or social media post.
The Results
For Micah's website, the headlines were written with a sprinkle of the "eccentric in-your-face" flavor, while getting specific on the studio features in the body copy. The key was to explain the benefits of working with Ok Micah features as clearly and simply as possible so nothing was lost on the reader, and they could grasp the benefits really quickly.
