I wanted to explore that delicate space between clarity and obscurity, between what’s visible and what’s only felt. This project is about perception, emotion, and memory. I chose it because it reflects how I approach design in general: I believe that the strongest visuals don’t come from what’s obvious, but from subtlety, atmosphere, and suggestion.

Between States is a visual experiment exploring the feeling of time, memory, and feminine presence in space. It’s composed of several visual scenes, both still and in motion, that capture moments of transition: from focus to blur, from clarity to diffusion.

The main goal was to show how softness, stillness, and imperfection can create emotional depth even when form and detail are intentionally vague.

The idea “Between States” refers not only to visual transitions, but also to inner emotional ones. It’s about the mental space between thought and stillness, a quiet balance where identity and perception shift.

The blurred female silhouette and flowers serve as metaphors for transformation and sensitivity. They appear and fade, reminding us that there is beauty even in uncertainty and impermanence.

Blurriness and soft focus were intentional choices, a way to make the viewer feel rather than just see. When edges dissolve, the mind fills in the gaps, creating personal emotional interpretations.

I used motion blur, film grain, and soft focus to evoke a cinematic sense of memory like old film that captures sensations rather than facts. The lavender gradient serves as a calm, grounding contrast to the fluidity, symbolizing softness, balance, and introspection.

Between States has the potential to evolve into multiple formats:

as a visual identity for brands rooted in mindfulness, softness, and emotional storytelling;

as a poster or digital art series;

as a motion-based art project exploring slow movement and perception;

or as a UI/UX design direction, where depth and blur create a sense of living, breathing interface.
