Description:

During my time working as an intern photographer at BrownKapture studios I had the privilege to work alongside seasoned professional photographers and photo editors In creating high end industry standard portrait and full shot photos both outdoors and in studio.

Goals and Objectives:

Our goals for every photoshoot session was to
Capture the Subject: Highlight the main subject or subjects of the shoot. This could be a person, product, or any other focus of the session.
Control Lighting: Take advantage of the controlled environment in a studio to manipulate and control lighting conditions. This helps in creating a desired mood, emphasizing certain features, and reducing shadows.
Achieve Consistency: Ensure consistency in lighting, composition, and overall style throughout the shoot, especially if there are multiple setups or different subjects involved.
Highlight Details: Showcase intricate details of the subject, whether it's the texture of clothing, the features of a product, or the expressions on a person's face.
Experiment with Poses and Angles: Try various poses and shooting angles to find the most flattering and visually interesting perspectives for the subject. This may involve experimenting with different camera angles, framing, and compositions.
Create a Mood or Atmosphere: Use props, backdrops, and lighting to establish a particular mood or atmosphere that aligns with the desired theme or message.
Maintain Image Quality: Ensure that the images are of high resolution and clarity, suitable for their intended use (e.g., print, online media, advertising).
Meet Client Expectations: Understand and fulfill the client's specific requirements and expectations. This may involve discussing concepts, reviewing mood boards, and keeping communication open throughout the process.
Edit and Enhance Images: Post-production work is often part of the process. Edit and enhance the images using software tools to refine colors, contrast, and other elements, ensuring the final product meets professional standards.

My Role:

As the photography intern I contributed to the photoshoot sessions by assisting with equipment setup, preparing the studio, managing gear, engaging with subjects, capturing behind-the-scenes content, handling logistics, learning from the lead photographer, assisting in post-production, managing administrative tasks, troubleshooting issues, and seeking feedback for skill development. I also made a redesign of the studios logo.

The Process:

Pre-Shoot Planning: Defining the purpose, goals, and theme of the shoot. Coordinating with clients or stakeholders to understand their expectations. Planning the logistics, including location, date, and time.
Equipment Setup: Gathering and organizing necessary equipment, including cameras, lenses, lighting, and accessories. Seting up the shooting environment, ensuring all gear is in working order.
Styling and Props: Arranging styling elements, such as clothing and accessories, and setting up props as needed.
Subject Preparation: Preparing and briefing the subjects, whether they are models, products, or individuals. Assisting with wardrobe changes and ensure everyone is comfortable.
Lighting Setup: Configuring lighting to achieve the desired mood and effects. Testing and adjust lighting setups to eliminate shadows and highlight key features.
Test Shots and Adjustments: Capturing test shots to fine-tune settings, compositions, and angles. Making necessary adjustments based on the initial results.
Photoshoot Execution: Capturing the planned shots, experimenting with poses, angles, and compositions. Directing subjects and maintaining effective communication throughout the shoot.
Review and Select Images: Reviewing images periodically during the shoot to ensure quality. Making initial selections or notes for specific shots.
Post-Production: Transferring captured images to a computer for post-processing. Editing and enhancing the images using software tools, adjusting colors, contrast, and other elements.
Client Review and Feedback: Sharing a selection of edited images with clients for review. Incorporating client feedback and making necessary adjustments to the final images.
Final Delivery: Preparing the final set of high-quality images for delivery to the client. Providing images in the required format, resolution, and any other specifications.
Documentation and Archiving: Maintaining organized records of the shoot, including model releases, contracts, and other relevant documentation. Archiving raw and edited files for future reference.

Results:

The result of every of our photoshoots was a collection of finalized and edited images that met the goals and expectations set during the planning stages. These images were typically delivered to the client or used for the intended purpose, whether it be for personal portfolios, marketing materials, advertising campaigns, publications, or other creative projects. The success of the photoshoot was measured by how well it captured the intended message or aesthetic and how satisfied the client or stakeholders were with the delivered images.
