Introduction

There are millions of homeless, neglected, mistreated and abused animals, especially house-pet in Indonesia. Adoption gives these animals a second chance and home. The number of homeless, neglected, mistreated and abused animals could be reduced if more people adopt pets.

Understanding the problem

I started the project with online research to learn more by gathering more information for my initial thoughts. About how to adopt pets, and who tends to adopt pets the most. I found that the adoption process is unclear and ambigous

Analyse the problem

I looked at some pet adoption apps, such as Petfinder, We Rescue. I found that they only provide basic data with a little detail about the pets displayed.

Potential Users

I found that teenager, young adults are less likely to adopt pets. Since a pet adoption mobile app might be a good way to reach out to them. I concluded that we need to design a user-friendly interface, also digitize the entire process.

Goals

The goal is to simplify the pet adoption process and making the right match between pet and owner.

Solving the problem

To get a better understanding of the overall purchasing process, I mapped a general picture.

Adoption Process
Adoption Process

In order to simplify the process, I decided to look at each step and underline existing problems.

1. Research

During this stage, people are left alone to learn about how the shelter works and what are the requirements, steps, processes, etc. to adopt pets.

2. Requirements

Prospective adopters must meet several eligibility criteria. The most common are:

1. A potential adopter must live on a property that allows pets 2. Many shelters further require potential adopters to attend training classes

3. Application for pet

Prospective adopters are also asked to fill out forms to verify they have the right environment and lifestyle and are equipped to take care for pets.

4. Matching the pet to your lifestyle

You should consider your lifestyle, living costs, activity level, age, personality, life goals, existing pets, family members, life expectancy, readiness, temperament, etc.

5. House visit

The shelter will make a house visit to approve the data that has been given by the prospective adopter is true.

6. Meeting the pet

After passing the application stage and house visit, the potential adopters then go to the shelter to meet one or several pets they are interested in.

Userflow

To get a better understanding of the overall adoption process, I mapped a general picture of the current adoption process and existing problems.

Wireframes & Visual Design

Onboarding

The onboarding is just explaining and eliminating misunderstandings.

Requirements

Users must meet these requirements to continue the adoption process.

Matching Lifestyle

To make the overall experience far more efficient, we will use all data collected to only display pet users that are suited to their lifestyle.

Finding Pet

On the Home screen, users can search for available dogs that fit their lifestyle. As soon as the user taps the heart icon on the dog that they like will be added to the Liked list. The Liked menu shows the number of pets liked and presents a CTA (Apply) button to send a request to meet the prospective pet.

After sending a request to meet a pet that the user likes, the application will guide the user through all the steps by booking an appointment, recommendations for before and after the visit, home visits of potential adopters to verify data and even support after adoption.
