Shellback Distillery: A gin distillery created to tell stories and make waves. Brand strategy, brand design, illustration, label design, and publication design.
Through an old sailor’s love for gin and the ocean, Shellback Distillery was created to make ripples in the Fremantle Ports of Western Australia. Inspiration was bred through the idea of how traditional sailors would drink gin to suggestively help their sea sickness. The goal was to create a distillery that brings back a piece of this history to Western Australians through traditional nautical themes, but in a contemporary approach.
It began with finding a solution for the comprehensive brand identity that was going to reflect the story and work seamlessly across the deliverables. This was achieved through a colour palette and illustrative style inspired by traditional sailor tattoos. The final brand identity combines nautical themes with gin connotations and has a relaxed and vibrant feel to appeal to the free-spirited target audience.
