Water in CGI

Water is something that most people might gloss over when building their 3D scenes. Overall if you want some quick water it is relatively easy to set up the shader for it. But if you want the water to be just that much more realistic, then it takes time and effort to create.

My solution

This is one of the reasons why I made myself a nodegroup in Blender that allows me to easly create realistic water.

One of the key processes to this project was experimenting based on real life reference. This allowed me to iterate on previous ideas, and compress the complex node network into a usable group that only had the desired parameters exposed.

Of course I also needed to test my shader so here are a few renders:

Overall while at first I made this as a personal project, I later realised that others might also find this useful, so I put it up on Blendermarket, and I made a simplified free version for Gumroad as well.
