If pre-workout is your secret to an intense workout, we feel you. In fact, we formulated our own Perform Pre-Workout Powder shortly after we launched our best-selling plant-based protein because we knew how crucial it can be for successful training. Nevertheless, if you run out before restocking, we recommend brewing your own cold brew and adding a few key ingredients to supercharge your brain.

The Most Basic Way to Make Cold-Brew

Of course, there are a lot of fancy cold-brew kits on the market, but most of coffee-drinkers can make a batch in 2 simple steps using what they have in their kitchen.
The most barebones way is to leave loose grounds to brew in a pitcher of cold or room-temperature water for 12-16 hours.
Then you filter out the grounds using a cheesecloth, french press, or even your own (turned off) drip coffee pot. It gets the job done.
But here are some things to consider if you want to take it one step further…

Supercharge Your Cold Brew with These Brain-Fuel Ingredients

Obviously, coffee isn’t a pre-workout. The latter has a lot more ingredients in it that encourage the body to perform at its highest octane. But there are also coffee brands out there that promise to provide benefits beyond caffeine’s capabilities.
Here are the ingredients those brands may use to focus your brain, curb your appetite, and get you ready to crush your workout:
MCTs or medium-chain triglycerides are usually sourced from coconut oil and are safe for everyday use. In contrast to glucose, which is prone to dips and spikes, healthy fat provides your brain with a more stable source of energy. Say bye, bye brain fog.
Use protein-enriched plant-based milk. Drinking protein first thing in the morning has been linked to a decrease in late-night snacking. (Just something to consider.)
Grab yourself some mushroom powder! Among the most effective varieties to add to your coffee are Chaga, Cordyceps, Lion's mane, Reishi, and Turkey's tail mushrooms. Mushrooms are having their moment in the health realm for multiple reasons: for improved focus, and clarity, and to offset the caffeine jitters.
As cinnamon stabilizes your blood sugar levels, it prevents sugar crashes and gives you a burst of energy.

The Size of Your Coffee Grinds Matters

So for this bit, size does matter. To be exact for the cold brew to be strong and perfectly balanced the grounds should be coarse rather than fine. Think drip coffee thickness and not the powder-light grounds used to brew espresso. The reason why? Finer grounds can over-extract or clump up, staying dry, and resulting in weaker cold brew.
You can brew without straining if you use a cold brew bag. It will cost you roughly $9.99 to purchase 200 cold brew bags from Amazon. It’s not a bad deal. When your Perform Pre-Workout restocks arrive, you can keep the cold brew on tap, ready for that afternoon slump on rest days.
Concentrated Cold Brew Ratio
Probably the first thing we should have mentioned was your brew ratio, but we didn’t, so we’ll let you in on a small secret…
To make a super strong, super concentrated brew use 8 ounces (1 cup) of water for every two ounces (⅔ cup) of grounds.
That’s it, folks, your coffee can set in the fridge for as long as 7-10 days. Stay alert, live well, and restock your preworkout powder already!
Perform Preworkout Powder comes in four carefully crafted flavors: watermelon, grape, pina colada, and pink lemonade.
