Project Showcase: Mobile App Design for DIY Tool Rentals

Renáta-Adrienn Bajkó

Introduction

Within the intense 48-hour timeframe of DesignFlows 2021, I embarked on the challenge to design a mobile app for renting tools, catering to DIY enthusiasts. This rapid design endeavor aimed not only to meet the competition's requirements but to push the boundaries of mobile UX for practical, real-world scenarios.
Concept Overview Create an intuitive mobile app allowing users to effortlessly rent tools for DIY projects.

Design Process

Ideation and Research: Fueled by creativity and a deep understanding of user needs, I delved into quick yet insightful research to inform the app's structure. Emphasizing simplicity, I brainstormed ideas to streamline tool discovery and rental processes.
Rapid Prototyping: With a clear vision, I quickly translated ideas into a cohesive user flow, designing three screens that encapsulated the user journey – from tool selection to checkout. Each screen was crafted for efficiency without compromising on visual appeal.

Key Screens

Tool Discovery: A visually engaging interface allowed users to explore a diverse range of tools categorized by projects. Intuitive filters and search functionalities ensured a seamless discovery process.
User Profile: A user-friendly profile section enabled users to track their rental history, manage preferences, and receive personalized recommendations based on past projects.
Useful Information: Detailed tool descriptions, rental duration options, and safety information were presented in a clean layout.

Visual Identity

The app icon, a visual representation of a toolbox with a modern twist, conveys the app's purpose, but in the same time remains abstract and warm. A balance of simplicity and uniqueness ensured it stood out on users' screens.
