Cynoia is a collaborative SaaS workspace that brings communication, project management, customer interactions, and team operations into one product. The platform serves startups, SMEs, and growing teams that need a more connected way to run their work.
I joined Cynoia on a 9-month engagement focused on making the platform more scalable, able to support a growing active-user base, and better positioned for its fundraising goals. During this period, the platform reached 8,000+ active users and secured $933,000 in funding.
My role
I worked as a Full-Stack Engineer and Platform Architect, contributing across product delivery and platform evolution:
Refined and implemented UI/UX for complex product workflows
Built frontend and backend features
Helped evolve the platform from a monolith toward microservices
Improved authentication, authorization, API integrations, and real-time services
Supported infrastructure scalability, cloud deployment, CI/CD, monitoring, and reliability work
The technical challenge
As the product and team grew, the monolithic architecture created constraints around deployment, maintainability, feature complexity, and scaling individual services. The platform also needed secure multi-tenant access controls and reliable real-time collaboration.
What I built
Microservices and data architecture
I helped transition core services toward a microservices architecture. I designed an extensible MySQL database for the project-management service and built and maintained services with NestJS and TypeORM.
Real-time platform services
I engineered an API gateway and WebSocket server, integrating RabbitMQ for real-time communication and message handling across services. I also implemented caching approaches across backend and frontend queries.
Product experience and integrations
I translated product designs into responsive interfaces with React, MUI, and Tailwind CSS. On the application layer, I integrated backend APIs with Redux Toolkit Query to support efficient data fetching and state management.
Security and operations
My work covered JWT authentication, role-based access control, multi-tenant authorization, secure API access, CI/CD, cloud deployments, and production reliability improvements.
Outcome
Over the 9-month engagement, the work created a more modular foundation for independent deployments, service isolation, ongoing maintenance, and future scale. It supported Cynoia’s effort to build a platform capable of serving more active users as the company pursued fundraising, during a period when the product reached 8,000+ active users and secured $933,000 in funding.
Over a 9-month engagement, helped evolve Cynoia from a monolith to scalable microservices as it prepared to support more active users and pursue fundraising.
