Case Study: Sportrex – GameFi Web3 Platform.
Role: UX/UI Designer / Design Lead.
Project Overview
Sportrex is a decentralized GameFi super platform that merges play-to-earn gaming, social networking, NFTs, and metaverse experiences into one platform. As the UI/UX designer, my goal was to create a user journey that made Web3 accessible to gamers, influencers, and creators regardless of their blockchain experience.
The Challenge
Blockchain apps are often complex and intimidating for first-time users.
Sportrex required a multi-chain experience (ETH, BNB, ARB, USDT) with wallet connections like MetaMask, Sportrex Gamers Wallet, and Trust Wallet.
Users needed clarity and trust in a space where scams are common.
The app had to balance gaming excitement with financial credibility, ensuring it felt both fun and secure.
About Sportrex
What is Sportrex.io
Sportrex is a blockchain-based GameFi / Play-to-Earn / Metaverse platform.
It combines gaming, social networking, and NFT marketplace features.
They have their own token called $SPT.
How it works / Key Features
You can earn from playing games, social interactions, or via activities in their ecosystem.
They operate on multiple blockchain networks (i.e., multi-chain) to support different tokens & assets.
They also run an NFT marketplace, which is under development. nftmarketplace.sportrex.io
The user can buy $SPT via networks like ETH, BNB, ARB, USDT etc with a wallet (MetaMask, TrustWallet, etc.).
Potential Benefits
The ability to monetize gaming and social activity.
Exposure to NFTs and blockchain assets.
My Process
1. User Research
Interviewed early adopters: gamers, crypto traders, and creators.
Identified pain points: confusing wallet setup, unclear token utility, and overwhelming interfaces in other GameFi apps.
Defined key personas: The Gamer, The Creator, The Newcomer to Web3.
2. Information Architecture
Designed a clear navigation system: Play | Earn | NFTs | Social | Wallet.
Separated “core actions” (Play, Buy Token, Trade NFT) from “secondary actions” (Settings, Help, Profile).
Mapped out onboarding flows for both desktop (MetaMask) and mobile (Trust Wallet).
3. Wireframing & Prototyping
Created low-fidelity flows to simplify token purchase (just 3 steps: Connect Wallet → Enter Amount → Confirm).
Designed visual indicators for transaction progress (so users never feel “lost” during blockchain confirmations).
Built prototypes for mobile-first, as many users in Sportrex’s target regions (Africa & Asia) primarily use smartphones.
4. UI Design
Visual Style: Bold, futuristic, gaming-inspired palette balanced with trust signals (shadows, gradients, and security cues).
Icons & Microcopy: Replaced technical jargon with familiar language (e.g., “Top up” instead of “Deposit tokens”).
Gamified Elements: Progress trackers, achievement badges, and glowing CTA buttons to enhance engagement.
5. Usability Testing
Conducted remote tests with 10 participants.
Insights:
Users appreciated the simplified onboarding.
Needed more clarity on fees & rates → Added inline fee breakdown.
Some mobile users struggled with wallet connection → Added “step-by-step help” within the flow.
The Solution
A streamlined GameFi app interface that reduces blockchain complexity. (Gamers Wallet)
Onboarding wizard guiding users through wallet setup and first token purchase.
Intuitive dashboards showing balance, NFTs, and rewards at a glance.
Community-first design with integrated social feed for gamers and creators.
Impact
Reduced onboarding steps from 7 clicks to 3.
Increased wallet connection success rate by 40% in testing.
Boosted user confidence through transparent fee displays and real-time progress indicators.
Designed a scalable UI system that can support future features (betting, tournaments, metaverse events).
Reflection
This project showed me the importance of bridging Web2 familiarity with Web3 complexity. My design focus was on making crypto invisible, so users could just play, connect, and earn without worrying about what happens under the hood.
