For this video, I provided editing and motion graphics with the goal for a VOX-style explainer. This piece really took off, quickly hitting over 350,000 views as only the fourth video on the channel.
Intro

My Process

I began with storyboarding in Figma. This allowed me to plan visually how to represent complicated economic arguments, logistical issues, and the usually exaggerated promises against the actual effect on host cities. Having the visual blueprint in place, I then moved into After Effects in order to build the edit, building on clear design, powerful data visualization, and an engaging narrative rhythm that would maintain the audience's attention with an inherently dense subject matter.
I tried my best to make animations that might simplify such complexities into bite-sized, memorable insights, and I'm satisfied with how these sequences communicate the essential points of the video.
Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with how it all turned out, and its popularity has been amazing. Notably, the video broke 350,000 views in short order, while being just the fourth video uploaded on the channel, and that says a lot about its appeal. I believe we managed to handle an in-depth subject in an appealing manner, showing a solid counter-narrative to the Super Bowl hype we all know. The part in which we break down visually the typical host city's budget, laying out often-overlooked expenditures, is a section I believe well utilizes animation in getting an important point across.
