Naive

Gabrielle Maxwell

This is a poem about unrequited love.
Naive
I guess I took a wrong turn
I mistook the signals I read
I want to love you
You lust for me
I can’t give just one piece of me
It kills me
It leaves me a corpse rotting
My heart beating out of my chest
I want to give a whole soul
I desire to provide a perfect heart
I can’t however
There is nothing but broken glass
I lay in the dark
A little light in front of my face
Your honeyed words
My failing senses
I hate my very being
Just for falling for you
I’m scared that history is repeating
That I fell for a lie
