Portfolio (CMS) website Design with Framer

Michelle is a Product Designer at Walmart who needed a new portfolio site, fast. She was planning to explore new opportunities and wanted something polished and professional to share with recruiters and hiring managers.

Challenge

She had already trie building the site in Framer herself, but ran into trouble getting the details right. She wanted something simple: a clean landing page, a few project pages, and an about page. Plus, she needed a way to easily import work from her old site and add new projects in the future without fuss.
Michelle was recommended by Mike Rapp (a Principal Designer I’d helped with his own portfolio, he’s now at Oracle). When she reached out, she was clear she needed someone who could just take over and make it happen.
The tricky part? She didn’t have a super solid vision for what she wanted, it just had to look good, feel professional, and be easy to maintain.

Solution

We decided to start completely from scratch in Framer and keep things as streamlined as possible. The goal was to create something clean, modern, and easy for her to update whenever she needed.
The site includes:
A welcoming landing page with clear, confident messaging.
Project pages that are easy to duplicate and customize, so she can keep adding new work as she builds it.
An about page that feels personal but professional.
A simple CMS-like workflow in Framer, so she can manage everything herself without design help.
I focused on making sure the design felt understated but polished, with typography and spacing that give it a professional finish. We also made sure she could easily bring in work from her previous site and adapt the framework to new projects later.

Timeline

We wrapped the entire project in about two weeks, giving her time to review, test, and get it ready before sending out job applications

Michelle’s Feedback

“James is so talented, collaborative, and a breeze to work with. He delivered my portfolio site and set it up in a way that I could easily plug in my projects. Highly recommend and would work with him again!”

Final Thoughts

Michelle didn’t want anything complicated, she just needed something that worked. This project was all about keeping it simple, fast, and flexible.
It’s a reminder that not every portfolio needs to be flashy. Sometimes, the best design just gets out of the way and helps someone tell their story clearly.
