Orca Security - Platform redesign

Over the past three years, Orca experienced hyper-growth, expanding from 10 to 400 employees. With this rapid growth, our product scaled quickly, adding innovative concepts, customer requests, and new features. The goal was to move fast, often without pausing to reflect.
Now that our team is more established, we have the capacity to ask: How can we improve our platform and elevate it to the next level of maturity? To enhance the customer experience, we formed a task force. I led the design aspect and played a key role in product strategy, focusing on what we should build, why, and when.

What problems are we trying to solve?

As a result of meeting with customers and internal users such as our sales and customer success teams and asking them to describe their flow of using the platform, we identified the main problems.
Navigation is not clear enough - Users aren't sure where to find what they are looking for and get lost
Overload of information - Too much information and lack of hierarchy
Search is too complex - When users are looking for a specific asset/issue they can’t find it
No clear UX patterns - Causing unexpected experience, inconsistency in flows and in UI/UX

Project strategy

Goals

🎯 To establish a product hierarchy that can scale for future product and feature releases
🎯 To enable customers to easily discover all of Orca’s features and capabilities
🎯 To create a simple mental model that will be clear for our users

Redefining the information architecture

After a few product workshops where we reviewed users’ feedback and brainstormed about new ideas, we came up with two main concepts for the new information architecture that we believed in.

The security tools

What is a security tool?

Security tools are actionable dashboards that give high-level information about specific types of security threats and allow you to easily slice & dice the list of issues to take action on them. We’ve created a modular structure that will be shared across different tools to create a unified flow, no matter which types of threats the user is dealing with.
