Handcraft Web Marketplace

Malangkraf is a platform dedicated to traditional handicrafts in Malang. The project aims to help local artisans reach a wider audience and increase their visibility through this platform. It was initiated in response to the rising popularity of digital marketplaces, which posed challenges for Malang's craftsmen to adapt and compete with larger, more established merchants. In this project, my role is team leader and UI/UX designer.

We used the design thinking process for solving and organize this problem

For the discovery phase, we did some research to ensure that the problem we found was really a problem for our users. we used qualitative research and competitor analysis to give us some information and insight. we’ve also created a business canvas to help us navigate all the possibilities.

We did some interviews with 15 craftsman from different type of handcraft that we categorize into three category which is merchandise, food, and furniture. and we got some result and insight from this research

- From the interview we clarify that 8/15 craftsman having a problem to sale their product

- Most of the craftsman selling their product offline and depend on mouth to mouth marketing strategies

- The rise of big e-commerce era are impacting the craftsman. people don’t need to travel in order to buy some merchandise while the craftsman depend on “on the spot” sales.

- The craftsman said it was hard for them to follow the fast technology development, so even if they had their special platform they might cannot operate the platform due to the low knowledge of technology. that was also the reason they note sale their handicraft in e-commerce platform

As the 1st design, we created this interface. at this point, our focus was function and at this phase, we did some testing to ensure that the functionality was good.

We did some testing to ensure the quality, we did two tests wich is an expert review and usability testing. from the result, we realized our design and functionality were bad.

From the 1st design we did some brainstorming and crazy 8 to generate as much as possible idea we can get. and here are the final result.
