🌟 Overview
The Little Engine List is a curated, editorial-style directory that highlights the best independent service providers in each city — starting with Austin, Texas. The goal was to create an emotive, human-centered digital experience that celebrates local talent while remaining SEO-friendly and easily scalable to new locations.
This project bridges storytelling and technology — blending cinematic design with smooth performance to offer a premium yet accessible browsing experience.
🎯 Objective
The challenge was to design and develop a visually-driven, editorial-quality web directory that feels as curated as Eater or Wirecutter, but focused on local professionals such as trainers, stylists, therapists, and creatives.
The objectives included:
Building a fast and SEO-optimized website
Designing an immersive brand experience
Allowing simple content management and scalability
Highlighting stories and profiles of trusted local providers
Offering clear calls-to-action for nominations and exploration

The approach combined product design thinking and brand storytelling:
Research & Inspiration
Analyzed local discovery platforms and editorial-style directories to identify patterns that combine trust, simplicity, and authenticity.
Design System
Created a minimal and cinematic layout with a focus on typography, photography, and emotional tone.
Color Palette: Earthy neutrals with modern accent tones
Type System: Elegant serif for headlines, geometric sans-serif for UI
Development
Built on Next.js and deployed on Vercel, ensuring blazing performance.
Used Tailwind CSS for rapid styling and design consistency.
Integrated lightweight Content Layer CMS for easy content updates.
