Email marketing and outreach is one of the oldest concepts in marketing. It was borne out of regular mail. I had been copywriting for a while when I discovered you could use emails to reach new clients.
I had to find a way to find clients, then find their emails, and later send emails they would open. This was an uphill task but since I wanted to make it work, it had to work.

Where I Started…

As with everything new, I thought I was the first person to go through this. I believed that I was an innovator. I knew I could get clients for myself and later flex on my friends. I realized how wrong I was when the legwork began.
I conducted research and discovered software that was developed for the task I wanted to do manually. I discovered CRMs that could automate sending emails and tell me open rates. This however didn’t tell me anything about how I could ensure my email was opened. As for prospects’ emails, there are many sites that can help such as https://hunter.io/.
If you’ve ever sent a cold email or made cold calls, you know that the prospect has a very short time to make up their mind about you. As such, every word should be what the prospect wants to hear.

Coming up with the Right Formula

My cold email had to be the perfect mix of suspense, desire, and efficiency. I looked into more email experts and realized that subject lines could help communicate this to my prospects. I went into a week-long study of creating subject lines(it was 2hrs per day for a week, don’t think I’m one of those people who preach struggle in order to get results).
I now had the formula in my hands. I messed around with different email subject lines until I consistently found ones with 70% or more open rates. As I share the examples with you below, these are not to be copied but rather source the examples for inspiration. If some sound too good to ignore then have at it by all means.

And the Subject Lines are…

As you can see from the subject lines above, for every 10 emails, at least seven of them were opened. This however brought a new problem to sight. I needed to find a way in which all opened emails would convert into replies.
Having in mind that 45% of all cold emails are opened, I was now above average. 8.5% of all cold emails get a reply so I needed at least one reply to my 10 emails to equal the average.

With an average reply percentage of 8.5%, the emails above were exceptional with a 22% reply rate. I made a change to these emails.
I discovered that what you said after the email was opened was also important. Subject lines just opened the door and now I had to keep the door open. I am yet to compile all templates for the emails so that I can share them.
Stay tuned as I now purpose to share my journey with you guys and hopefully, we get to learn together. Emails are a powerful tool for growing your business and we’ll leverage this and more strategies to grow our craft.
I hope you found this helpful. Please follow for similar content and be sure to leave any questions that you may have or comment your thoughts as they could be of help. Thanks for reading!
