Owning Your Space at Work

As humans, matters we are passionate about embolden and evoke us to express and be ourselves. That innate need to be expressive is hard to fight let alone accept. It can cause internal conflict or inner duality, especially if it crosses your life’s work/goals. I for one have over the past months struggled to find a balance between my corporate job and self-proclaimed purpose and passion. The job is substantial to my finances and functional-mundane side. Still, the desire for media work/creativity always wants to show itself out. After all, it’s my lifelong dream that I intend to see manifest into my fate.
Are you truly content with your 9 to 5? You are there for a reason, most likely to meet your needs. The realization you’re there for necessity, not fulfillment or love can be draining and will always leave you unsatisfied. When unsatisfied, some will wallow in their dissatisfaction accepting it as routine. Others think of better opportunities to take off the discomfort-a new path to growth. However, growth won’t come if you don’t accept that you have to leave your mark here, in the now. Fulfillment will ghost you if you don’t own your space here.
2 Qs to ponder about in relation to this article:
My life consists of my days—what am I doing with this one?
What would my most fully realized self do with today?
In my bid to gain balance between my two career paths, I decided I needed to change the narrative at my corporate job. I need to relish or harness it otherwise, I’ll come off work drained and unhappy and spend my off days to recharge and leisure. I’ll constantly overthink about how I can’t pursue my passion due to employment and it’s out of my control. I chose to harness the job and own my space and path. I figured if I could employ my skills and personality that apply on both paths, I’d cover more distance or unlock opportunities in my journey towards my passion. Waiting for an opportunity to meet readiness.
So how do we go about that? How do you and I own our spaces at work and make the best of whatever attitude you have in your workplace? Owning your workspace is leaving your own mark in a memorable, professional/ethical, and authoritative way. The first step towards owning your space is marking or creating your work image and living by that image. Who do you want to be at work/life? What do you want and need to do there that mutually benefits your passions and bosses? What do you want people to think about you or your work/life? What skills can you sharpen, or lessons can you learn and implement to your desires while employed?
That lies in the little things that spark confidence. For starters, try building a passion network with the people you interact with or share your workspace with. Make time for enjoyable activities that you can easily incorporate into your work routine. Keep track of your productivity levels, manage your expectations as well as those of others, and try to think creatively within the limits of company policies. By doing all this, you can achieve a sense of fulfillment both within your workspace and in chasing your dreams.
