Whether you’re new to the game, a returning player, or even an old school veteran, Minecraft has a great deal of different components that leave a large room for exploration.
As a work from home mom who likes to connect with her kids, Minecraft is a great activity for the whole family, and by implementing a few rules during play, our Minecraft adventures become enjoyable for everyone.
This article is a source for new and old Minecraft players who are looking for inspiration to rejuvenate how they play the game, and can work for all ages–kids, teens, and adults. There are introductory guides for those new to the Minecraft experience as well as more advanced tips and tricks for veteran players.
What Minecraft is.
Minecraft has been around for over one decade already, and most people have heard about it, usually from a younger crowd. In the simplest terms, it is a sandbox-adventure video game that allows for a great deal of creative freedom available in kid-friendly pixel-like graphics.
The Parent’s Ultimate Guide to Minecraft has in-depth information for any parent who wants to have a full understanding of the game before allowing it into their home.
If you are ever curious as to the origin of the game, The History and Evolution of Minecraft provides a full accounting of its story, including the various updates that have influenced gameplay.
With that being said, updates to Minecraft are still on-going, and you can visit Minecraft News for official updates, however, the sub-Reddit forum Minecraft News — Updates, Announcements, and Discussion has user confirmed changes, glitches, and even some insider resources.
Now that we have covered the basics, let’s move into the world of Minecraft itself.
Ways to Personalize Minecraft (for fun, of course!)
World Building
Minecraft allows players to create an infinite number of worlds (though they do take up memory space upon whichever console you play upon), and the two most common modes to play are Survival and Creative. These allow for different play styles and also can inspire play for the other mode, such as experimenting with building styles or mechanics.
Before building the world, however, there are a few options that can make the overall gaming experience more fulfilling.
Seeds
There are numerical ‘seeds’ that act as a starting point for Minecraft, allowing multiple players to generate the same, or similar, worlds even across different consoles and even platforms. Below you can find seeds for many different Minecraft worlds from multiple biomes to large singular biomes.
These seeds are rather unique and even new to me. Some combine aspects like the Witch’s Hut seed, which has four huts that surround a Woodland Mansion. Many other seeds are just as intriguing or simply full of breathtaking scenery.
In addition to the unique seeds, this article has a basic explanation of what seeds are as well as a straightforward explanation of how to use them, and for multiple versions of Minecraft.
Beebom.com offers beautiful and challenging seeds for the more experienced players who want to do something a little different from their normal adventures. Take a look at their 30 seeds to see what else they have to offer in addition to this Bastion Remnant that Spawns right inside a Nether Fortress.
Servers
An interesting fact about Minecraft is the ability to play local or on a server that spans the vast world wide web. While local play may be enough for family time and is certainly great for kids who can play together without being influenced by the unknown, there are also times when a player wants something more challenging.
PCGamesN.com offers their list of The best Minecraft server list 2023, with explanations of each type of play, the world’s biomes, and even a brief description on how to join a server.
From creator Danielle Rose:
“Looking for a list of the best Minecraft servers to join in 2023? Joining any one of the varied Minecraft servers in this list will invite you into a magical world full of like-minded fans, builders, redstone masters, and survival experts. Minecraft worlds are infinite, so what better than sharing one with others?”
Customization
Skins
Minecraft character creation has undergone several evolutions, including the ability to edit the style (clothing), as well as having several new basic characters to choose from. Here are some ways to customize your avatar, whether you are playing in a local world, or trying to stand out on a public server.
This is a perfect introductory guide on how to change and edit the character skin, with images and videos to supplement the experience. It also includes steps for both PC and Pocket Edition Minecraft.
These are all very cliche, but also striking skins, with popular genres like superheroes, to quirky skins with geometric patterns. Each skin has a photo on display within a full Minecraft world.
Unwilling to chance someone else using the same skin? Then this website is the skin creator for you. It includes a basic and advanced version, with a live preview before finalization. You can also create skins for mobs, share anything with the website itself–allowing fellow Minecraft players to use your creations, or simply displaying them proudly.
Texture packs
To be honest, I am actually confused when using texture packs, as I have a difficult time identifying the items I want to use, mine, or build with. However, it would be remiss of me to overlook such a large part of the gameplay, and here is a straightforward and less than eight minute long YouTube video that displays several available textures packs.
Gameplay
Finally, the core aspect of the game. Below you will find several categories of Minecraft gameplay, with sources that provide insightful, informative, and innovative tips, tricks, and treats that will enliven up your existing Minecraft experience.

Enchanting
Potion Brewing

Additional Aspects
Streaming has become the new form of entertainment, and gaming streaming in particular has become rather rampant. Even Minecraft has a large number of gaming streamers, let alone the number of followers.
Below are some of my kids favorite YouTubers who play on and/or conqueror Minecraft.
Aphmau — She is a female gamer who tends to create storylines and uses Minecraft as a way of presenting them, with her own and other people’s voices featured as the characters in her stories.
LockDownLife — He has a way of challenging Minecraft mechanics, and has even done quite a bit of his antics in hardcore mode, where one wrong move will take away the only life he has.
