Ottagua – A Local Guide for Ottawa’s Latinx Community

Luis Martinez

I created Ottagua.com as a digital guide for the Latinx community in Ottawa and Gatineau. The goal was to build something personal, useful, and easy to navigate—a place where newcomers can find local tips, events, and cultural context in Spanish.
The site is built with Astro and React for speed and flexibility, styled with Tailwind CSS, and animated using GSAP to give it a smooth, dynamic feel. Content is written in MDX, allowing for easy publishing in both Spanish and English. I deploy with Coolify and use Beehiiv to manage and send the weekly newsletter.
Everything is designed to feel human, helpful, and welcoming—just like the city it’s about.
I also used Jitter to animate the logo and exported it as a Lottie file to keep it lightweight and crisp across devices. This added a playful, branded touch without compromising performance.
