OptimalWork

SUMMARY

I partnered with OptimalWork to redesign their mindfulness SaaS, which aims to improve work productivity and enjoyment. They wanted to expand the user base and boost customer satisfaction, but their existing platform wasn’t meeting its full potential. I redesigned the experience to make it more intuitive, scalable, and aligned with both user needs and business growth.
By streamlining the web UI and restructuring the information architecture, I enhanced usability while future-proofing the platform for new features and customers. I also optimized the experience for corporate buyers, unlocking new revenue opportunities without compromising ease of use for individual users.

THE CHALLENGE

OptimalWork had an existing product on the market, so I needed to get an in-depth understanding of it before beginning the redesign. I started by conducting a UX audit to identify what was working and what areas needed improvement.
The existing app had a lot of useful content as well as an engaging set of accompanying tools. There was also a solid academic foundation to back the platform.
However, some issues needed to be addressed. The branding was dated and inconsistent, and different parts of the application did not feel cohesive. The layout was confusing, with tools and content scattered, making it unclear where a user should start their journey.

Overall, there was a valuable foundation of useful features, but the platform looked more like an MVP than a polished, well-thought-out product.

RESEARCH & ANALYSIS

To learn about the product’s target audience, I conducted user interviews. I spoke with existing OptimalWork users with the aim of understanding their needs, pain points, and desires. The research gave me invaluable insights into the company’s strengths and weaknesses, and I was able to derive two personas that represented their main users.

STRATEGY

After collecting all the data and insights, we worked on a design strategy that would help achieve the client’s business goals. With the ultimate target of making the experience more scalable and streamlined, we set the following objectives:
Focus on the highly valued content rather than the secondary tools
Reorganize the platform and optimize key interactions
Reduce clutter and clean up the layout
Improve the product offering to attract enterprise customers
Refresh the branding to make the site more professional and consistent

SOLUTION

The final design featured an improved organization, a much simplified interaction model, and refreshed branding. We also introduced a number of features that would make the platform more unified and simple to use. The below prototype shows the new My Coach feature that guides users through their day with useful content suggestions that would help them get the most value out of OptimalWork.
