Copy Writing for Lesson Plans

Overview 🔎

It's March 2020 and the world had just shut down. A friend of mine posted on Facebook looking for arts educators who had lost their jobs. As I had been a dance teacher, I responded. After a phone interview, I was hired as a copy editor for lesson plans that were being written from CLI Studios' pre-existing video content. Shortly after I was promoted to copywriter while maintaining my role as copy editor. As a team, we produced entire curriculum for multiple grades and age levels.

Problem & Solution 🤝

I edited copy for lesson plans with a fall deadline. I also was tasked with rewriting plans that were past deadline and in need of revision. Additionally, I was tasked with writing lesson plans based on pre-existing video content.

Goals/Requirements: • As a team, publish a lesson plan for every current video in the library by September 2020.

• Lesson plans must match Common Core State Standards for education.

Process 🛣

Google Drive and Google documents served as a perfect platform for editing and copywriting as a team. Utilizing the comment and edit tools was paramount in our success. The comment tool allowed us to create accountability for content within differing age groups and maintaining common core standards while the edit tool gave copy editors an ability to show the writers' the edits being made which in turn created better writers.

Results 🎁

By September we reached our goal of publishing lesson plans for the library of content required of us. Each lesson plan was scalable for disparity between classrooms and age groups and provided teachers with the tools to teach the arts despite their varying backgrounds.
